Modeled on the tenets expressed in "This We Believe: Keys to Educating Young Adolescents" (NMSA/AMLE, 2010), the Dwight D. Eisenhower Advisory program is designed to address the developmental, emotional, and social needs of students in grades 6, 7, and 8. The developmental needs of the students is central to the purpose the Advisory program. Specific needs vary from year to year and the Advisory program is adapted annually to address current and emerging needs as identified by students, teachers, and administrators. Data sources include school wide surveys, discipline referrals, suspension and absentee records, and guidance department reports. Teachers and administrators serve as advisors who are adult advocates for individual students in their small group of students (12-16 students). Advisory groups include students from grades 6, 7, and 8. Advisory builds community and establishes a culture of caring. Advisory curriculum provides a coherent shared vision to guide school culture and response to student needs.
