October is Anti-Bullying Month
Anti-Bullying Month, which begins with the Week of Respect here in New Jersey’s
schools, is a month-long event to prevent childhood bullying and promote
kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. In a series of grade-level and classroom
meetings, Eisenhower Middle School students are provided with information
about the New Jersey Laws Against Discrimination, the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights,
and New Jersey's Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) legislation which
protects the rights of all students against discrimination based on race, color,
religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and
expression, or a mental, physical or sensory disability, or by any other
distinguishing characteristic. Words of Kindness are shared by and with students
on our ETV broadcasts during the month of October, and various activities are
planned to teach and promote respect toward self and others. Students in eighth
grade were provided this week with information about the rights of students to
access equal educational opportunities including the right to use locker rooms and
restrooms that are consistent with a student’s gender identity, and for all students
to be informed of the spaces available for any student who does not want to share
locker rooms or restrooms with other students. We work hard to ensure that our
school is a place where all students are made to feel welcome, respected, and
protected and to remain sensitive to the rights of all students. If any student or
parent has a question or concern related to student protection and privacy,
anti-bullying, or mental health, they are encouraged to reach out to their
guidance counselor, who is available to talk with students and parents regarding
any issues that may impact a child’s school experience. Contact information for
our middle school guidance department can be found on the school’s website at
