halloween

As a reminder, there is no school for students on Thursday and Friday, 11/6-11/7, due to the NJ Teachers’ Convention, and Monday, 11/10, due to Parent/Teacher Conferences.

Be sure to check out this newsletter created by our special area teachers that highlights what has been going on in their classes.

Message from Mr. Cosman regarding this week’s school musical rehearsals: Check out the updated November Calendar for this week's upcoming musical rehearsal schedule. For now, students should enter via the main entrance doors. Contact Mr. Cosman if you have any questions.

Thank you to the many parent volunteers who helped make Halloween so enjoyable for our students. They enjoyed all of the fun games, crafts, and activities that were planned! It was great to see all of our students and staff decked out in festive costumes for the day!

Election Day is this Tuesday, November 4th. This day serves as a wonderful opportunity to discuss with our students the importance of voting, citizenship, and the freedoms we have in the United States. We will read a Words of Wisdom on Tuesday about the day and discuss with our students.

As a reminder, Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place on November 10th from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on November 17th from 2:00-7:00 PM. There will be no school for students on 11/10 and a minimum day on 11/17. Additionally, November 18th is a delayed opening with a 10:20 start time.

By now, all parents should have signed up for a conference with their child’s homeroom teacher. If you would like to schedule a meeting with one of the special area teachers, please use the links below to sign up for a meeting with that teacher directly.

COOLIDGE C.A.R.E.S.

At the heart of the Responsive Classroom approach lies a core belief: To be successful in and out of school, students need to learn a set of social and emotional competencies — cooperation, assertiveness, responsibility, empathy, and self-control—and a set of academic competencies — academic mindset, perseverance, learning strategies, and academic behaviors.

This year, we are going to pay special attention to these competencies and further prioritize them with our students. These C.A.R.E.S. competencies align with the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) core competencies.

C- Cooperation- working effectively with others, contributing to group efforts

A- Assertiveness- expressing needs and opinions respectfully and confidently

R- Responsibility- being accountable for one’s actions and commitments

E- Empathy- understanding and sharing your feelings and others' feelings

S- Self-control- managing emotions and impulses effectively

During November and December, we will be focusing on COOPERATION through lessons with Mrs. Mapes, read-alouds, Words of Wisdom, discussions during our schoolwide meeting, and other activities. The following standards will be covered, and we invite you to reinforce this message at home:

  1. Able to make and keep friends.

  2. Works with others toward a common goal.

  3. Resolves differences quickly.

  4. Cooperates as a group leader or a member of a group.

  5. Exhibits helpfulness.

2ND ANNUAL TURKEY TROT

Our Coolidge School community will host our 2nd Annual Turkey Trot on Monday, November 17th (rain date Nov.18th) during the school day. On this day, each grade level will go outside to walk, jog, or run laps around the backfield during a thirty-minute period. This event will help raise awareness in our students about food insecurity and rally support for local families. We hope to instill gratitude for our blessings and give thanks by making a turkey donation to support others in need. With that in mind, please consider donating a frozen turkey on behalf of the event. The frozen turkey drop-off will be on Friday, November 21st, on the front lawn of the school from 8:00-10:00 am. All donations will be given to the Center for Food Action to create holiday dinner baskets for families in need.
