Dear Sicomac Families,
This week began with a significant snowstorm and wrapped up with a joyful close-out celebration of our One Book, One School initiative AND mismatch day. Throughout the building students are working hard and our hallways continue to buzz with energy and excitement for learning. Thank you to our families for your extra patience during arrival and dismissal as snow piles may have slowed things down along our traffic route. Your care for our Sicomac community is evident and those values are clearly reflected in your children as well. Here's hoping for warmer weather and slightly smaller snow piles in the week ahead!

Introducing Peer Buddies
We are excited to introduce a new program being implemented here at Sicomac: The Peer Buddy Program. This inclusive initiative pairs fourth-grader student volunteers with our youngest learners to build positive relationships through guided activities, play, and social interaction. Our fourth graders serve as role models and mentors, helping younger students practice communication skills while building confidence and independence. In return, the student volunteers gain meaningful leadership experience, strengthen communication skills, and learn the importance of service and inclusivity. This program promotes a strong sense of community and ensures every child feels valued and supported at Sicomac.

Early Pick-Ups
Unless there is an emergency, please refrain from picking up students between 3:00 and 3:20 PM. During this time, our teachers, support staff, and main office team are preparing for a safe and orderly dismissal. We truly appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Please feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any concerns or questions.
Global School Play Day
We will celebrate National Global School Play Day on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. This day highlights the importance of play without screens. Each grade level will dedicate one or two periods to play experiences. With children often immersed in technology, video games, and social media, I encourage families to find opportunities for free, creative, and unstructured play at home as well!
Valentine's Day Reminder
As Valentine's Day approaches, please remember that food or goody bags are not permitted to be shared at school. Students may bring a Valentine card for each classmate (please ensure every child in the class receives one). No food may be attached, however, a small non-edible item such as a sticker or pencil is welcome.
Thank you, as always for your continued partnership and support. Sicomac is a special place because of the strong connection between school and home. Have a wonderful weekend and stay warm!
Sincerely,
Keith Dunbar, Principal
