Reading

Dear Sicomac Families,

This week we celebrated Read Across America Week in true Sicomac style. Our school was transformed into a faraway places because we know that reading can take us anywhere. In addition to the creative artwork and vision brought to life by our outstanding parent volunteers, we read together during a hallway read with our stuffed animals, dressed up in fun themes together, and strengthened the connection between school and home with dozens of mystery readers and volunteers who visited our classrooms. On Thursday, students had the exciting opportunity to hear from both a professional author and a professional illustrator. Today, we wrapped up the week with a school-wide meeting centered around a read-aloud of great book that our students voted as "Sicomac's Favorite Picture Book" during a competition this week. We also heard from our Student Council President and proudly sang our school song together. All of this happened while our students continued learning, playing and engaging fully in their core academcs and interventions. I've included some photos from our amazing week below. Thank you to everyone who helped make this week-long celebration of reading so special.

Neurodiversity

During the week of March 16, we will celebrate Neurodiversity Week. This is an important opportunity for our school community to recognize and celebrate the many different ways people, think, learn, and experience the world. We will engage in conversations and activities designed to help students understand that every brain works a little differently and that those differences make our community stronger. We will build empathy, appreciation, and respect for the unique strengths that each of us brings to Sicomac. By recognizing and valuing these differences, we will continue to create the inclusive and supportive school environment that makes our school so special.

Lost and Found

After next week, lost and found items will be donated. If your child has misplaced an item of clothing, water bottle, or another belonging, please encourage them to check the Lost and Found early next week. We would love to reunite as many items as possible with their owners before they are donated.

As always, thank you for your continued partnership and support of our school community. Have a wonderful weekend!
