A team of students at Eisenhower Middle School were chosen as one of only 300 schools in the country (and one of eight in NJ) to move on to the next round in Samsung's "Solve for Tomorrow" design challenge. In being selected a state finalist, EMS will be awarded a $2,500 Samsung technology prize package and continue competing to win the national prize of a $100,000 package. Next, students will work toward being named a state winner and ultimately a national finalist. The team, comprised of students Chris H., Greyson P., Shaela S., and Chris S. (and mentored by teachers Angelo Bonavitacola, Marc DeBlock, and Jason Opremcak), now turns their attention towards engaging the community and using the design thinking process to design, engineer, and test a prototype.
From the Samsung website: Samsung Solve for Tomorrow is a nationwide competition designed to empower students in grades 6–12 to leverage the power of STEM to create innovative solutions addressing critical issues in their local communities. The competition engages U.S. Gen Z students to catalyze change by applying Problem-based Learning (PBL) principles, environmental stewardship, and entrepreneurship to address some of society’s most pressing challenges. It also promotes active, hands-on learning, making STEM more tangible and showcasing its real-world applications.

The Nurse and Phys Ed Department will be holding their Annual Health Fair. We gather your child's height/weight and Blood Pressure information. For 6th and 8th graders a vision screening is also done for distance. For 7th graders a hearing screening is also done. This is done to meet New Jersey's Health requirements and gives us the opportunity to teach your child what this information means. It will happen the week of December 4th through December 11th during your child's phys ed period. No special preparation is needed.
